Xiaomi Reportedly Banned from Selling Handsets in India, following complaints by Ericsson

The Delhi Court has issued an ex-parte interim injunction against the Chinese smartphone brand, Xiaomi. The order prevents Xiaomi from selling, importing, advertising or manufacturing devices that infringe upon Ericsson's Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) which calls for the end of the company's operations in India .

The news was first reported by the publication SpicyIP, which stated that the judge had ordered customs officials to halt the import of Xiaomi devices, and even appointed local commissioners to ensure the implementation of the order.

SpicyIP also reports that the Delhi High Court has under IPR Rules, 2007, directed customs officials to stop Xiaomi's imports, and adds that authorities will visit the firm's offices to ensure compliance.

Another publication, Medianama reports that Flipkart, which is Xiaomi's official retail partner in India, has also been asked to comply with the order.

Medianama also received a response from Manu Jain, Xiaomi's India head, on the matter:
"While we haven’t received an official notice from the Delhi High Court, our legal team is currently evaluating the situation based on the information we have. India is a very important market for Xiaomi and we will respond promptly as needed and in full compliance with Indian laws. Moreover, we are open to working with Ericsson to resolve this matter amicably."
According to Ericsson , the company had tried to contact Xiaomi several times in the past but were always ignored. When asked about the injunction , the head of the company in India , Manu Jain , said they received no court notification , but will work to resolve this situation in the most effective way possible.

Now , all Xiaomi products that were being sold in the country should be removed from the air in the coming weeks from Flipkart.
