Nasa's New Interactive App '3DV' Available On iOS, Gives Preview Of Deep Space Exploration

You can now experience the excitement of standing on the launch pad beneath NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) with a new interactive app from NASA dubbed 3DV for iOS devices.

With this new app you can examine NASA's several deep space exploration missions to asteroid and Mars and beyond. You can launch the SLS from the top of the desk or off the floor, following the flight's path. You can see the top of the rocket by pointing the device up, and if hold level you will see the details of the rocket boosters and engines. The app also show the virtual models of the crawler transporter that carried the Saturnn V moon rockets and space shuttle to the launch pad.


The app is divided into three parts - the Model Viewer, the Scene Viewer and Augmented Reality.

With the Model Viewer users can explore components of NASA's space program. Users get to choose a vehicle that can be your carrier to various locations. You can control via rotate, pivot or pinch zoom function.

The Scene Viewer lets you get close through a fixed point in space. Users can move their device around to see a 360 degree view which will make users feel they are standing on the facility's launch platform.

Lastly, With Augumented Reality Viewer, you can select on of several options, such as SLS or the Orion crew module or the massive crawler transported which will look real.

The app is now available for iOS devices and an Android-based version is already in the works.
