Microsoft announces Intel Atom-Based Surface 3 with Windows 8.1
As expected, Microsoft has announced the Surface 3 tablet, a new addition to its Surface lineup of hybrid tablets.
The Microsoft Surface 3 features 10.8-inch (1920 x 1280 pixels) 3:2 ClearType Full HD Plus 10-point multi-touch Display with Pen input. It is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor paired with 2GB or 4GB RAM. It is offered in two storage options - 64GB and 128 G. It runs Windows 8.1.
Camera features include 8-megapixel auto focus rear camera and 3.5-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Full USB 3.0, Mini Display port and Micro USB charging port.
The battery life on Surface 3 can last up to 10 hours. It measures 267 x 187 x 8.7mm and Weighs 622g. It also has stereo speakers with Dolby Audio enhanced sound.
There is another variant of Surface 3 that supports LTE connectivity. It has built-in nano SIM slot. Microsoft is also offering one-year subscription to Office 365 on all version of Surface 3 tablets.
The Surface 3 tablet will be available via Microsoft Stores, microsoftstore.com and select retailers starting May 5 and will go on sale in 26 markets worldwide by May 7. The LTE variant be available starting June 26. The pricing of the tablet is as follows
- 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for $499
- 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage for $599
- 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and LTE support for $599
- 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage with LTE support for $699.
Microsoft also announced optional accessories for the Surface 3 that include a new Type Cover, Docking Station and Surface Pen.
The Type Cover is priced at $129 and will come in bright blue and bright red colors. The Surface Pen comes with a price tag of $49 and will be sold in silver, black, blue and red colors. The Docking Station enables the Suface 3 to be connected to an HD monitor, a printer external mouse and keyboard to create a full desktop workstation The pricing details is not revealed.
