Microsoft is making a ROM that converts Android handsets to Windows 10 phones
Earlier today Microsoft announced that it was teaming up with Xiamoi to test Windows 10 on Mi 4 Android device with flashable ROM.
Now, Tech Crunch reports that the Windows 10 for Android devices program is set for a wider roll out. The Windows 10 software that being tested on Xiaomi's Mi 4 effectively overrides the Android OS, turning the Xiaomi phone into a complete Windows 10 device with Microsoft services.
The ROM is based on Windows 10, that operates much like Cyanogen software and is designed to go beyond Microsoft's Android app and offer native-like Windows experience on Android phones.
In Simple words if a user is opting to install a ROM containing Windows 10 to an Android device, the ROM will allow the Android user to have Windows 10 experience on his phone. Microsoft hopes this will dazzle Android users to make the switch to Windows 10.
By testing Windows 10 on Android handsets, Microsoft is aiming to expand its reach in the smartphone market.
Microsoft said that the availability of Windows 10 on Xiaomi Mi 4 will be announced in the months to come.
Xiaomi's Mi 4 is the first device being tested with Windows 10 ROM, and Microsoft hopes to have similar ROMs available for other Android devices. Xiaomi is a trusted community in the market and Microsoft picked it because its customers provide feedback religiously on Xiaomi's weekly software update.
