Microsoft provides further clarification on the Windows 10 update for pirated versions

There is lot of confusion going on around Microsoft's announcement of Windows 10 update availability to PCs running pirated copies of the Windows 7/8 software.

Yesterday Microsoft said that they would allow PCs running pirated version of Windows 7 and 8 to be update to Windows 10 although it will still be pirated version.

Now Microsoft has provided further clarification and says people running pirated copies can get the Windows 10 update for free but it will be non-genuine, if they want the Windows software to be genuine they will have to purchase it via Windows store.

In a statement to The Verge Microsoft said "We will provide a mechanism for non-genuine Windows 10 PC devices to 'get genuine' via the new Windows Store, whether they are upgraded versions of Windows or purchased," . Microsoft also said that the update process will be the same globally.

What Microsoft is trying to do here is allow users to try out the Windows 10 software and its features for free, like a demo, and if they like the software, they will have to pay a fee to get the license. If Microsoft price it right maybe we can see many pirates move to legit copies of Windows.
