TAG Heuer teams up with Google and Intel for luxury Android wear smartwatch
Luxury Swiss watch maker TAG Heuer announced its partnership with Intel and Google to launch a luxury smartwatch with Intel technology powered by Google's Android Wear software. The watch is an attempt to compete with Apple watch.
The smartwatch will be assembled and manufactured in Swizterland, but it may not have Swiss Made written on the watch since the hardware and software will come from Silicon valley. The smartwatch will be luxurious and have the impression of wearing a normal watch.
The Swiss firm has not revealed any images of what the smartwatch will look like but the company suggested that it would standout from other smartwatches. The Swiss firm said "It will be a traditional look. It will not look like an Apple Watch. An Apple Watch looks like a miniaturised copy of its phone. Our watch will never look like a phone."
The company also did not reveal the specs of the smartwatch, but said that it will offer fitness tracking features, GPS location capabilities and longer battery life.
The TAG Heuer smartwatch is expected to hit the store by end of this year. The company also announced a special tie-up with DJ David Guetta.
TAG Heuer says "The quality of Swiss watches is renowned worldwide. When this is allied with the creative technology and global power of two companies like Intel and Google, using the Android Wear platform and based on Intel technology, we can see the launch of a technological revolution in our industry, of which I am proud to be a pioneer today with TAG Heuer."
