Facebook testing WhatsApp integration in its Android app

According to a report from Geektime, Social networking website Facebook is planning to integrate WhatsApp on its app.

As per the report, Facebook has started testing a new feature for its Android app which will bring WhatsApp integration with Facebook app.

The new feature will be available on Facebook's Android app version 31.0.0.7.13. The latest update adds a 'Send button' that has a WhatsApp logo on it. Note that, the feature is not rolled out to all users as the app is in test process.

The button is present next to the 'Like', 'Comment' and 'Share' button under each status post on Facebook. With the new 'Send' button users will be able to send photos, videos and other content from Facebook to WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is said to have 700 million active mobile users monthly making it the largest mobile messaging platform. Facebook is the biggest social network in the world with over 1.35 million users and its Messenger app has 600 million monthly users.

This move from Facebook appears to be the first step to connect the two platforms in order to take control of the messaging market.

To recap, WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for $20 billion in February last year and the acquisition was completed on October.
