HTC has no plans for 'mini' version of One M9 phone

HTC usually launches a cheaper and downsize version of its flagship phones. Now Focus Taiwn reports that HTC has decided to axe its mini lineup of smartphones because the market is moving to different direction. This means there will be no mini version of HTC's flagship One M9.

According to HTC the reason behind this is because the market is witnessing a move towards larger screen. Jack Tong, President of HTC North Asia said that the Taiwanese company will end its "mini" product lineup that was created two years ago.

"Overall the industry is moving towards new phones over 5 inches in size and our product roadmap is close to that of the industry," Tong said on May 14 at the Taiwan launch of the One M9+

HTC currently sells two handsets in the mini lineup - the 4.3-inch HTC One Mini launched in July 13 and 4.5-inch HTC One Mini 2 launched in May 2014 as stripped down versions of HTC One M7 and One M8.

HTC will now focus on smartphones with 5 to 5.5-inch display. Last month the company launched the 5.2-inch One M9+ and 5.5-inch One E9+ in China, India and other Asian markets. The company is also rumored to launch One ME9 with 5.2-inch display soon.
