Samsung claims to sell 1 million units of Tizen-powered Z1, more smartphones coming this year
Samsung launched their first Tizen-powered smartphone dubbed Samsung Z1 in January 2015. Now Samsung India claims that it has sold over 1 million units of Samsung Z1 since it launch in India.
In a press statement, Asim Warsi, Vice-President-Marketing, Mobile and IT, Samsung India, said, “Samsung Z1 features an easy to use UI that offers a smooth and fast experience to ensure a seamless migration to smartphones. We are happy to see the response the device has received and will continue to grow the range for Tizen- powered smartphones.”
The sales of Samsung Z1 is better that the company expected as it managed to sell 1 million units in Six months. It was specifically designed to cater the needs of Indian market. The phone is designed to overcome key barriers like complicated UI and short battery life. The Tizen OS is lightweight and has fast boot time, quick access to apps and fast browser performance.
Samsung also plans to launch a Gold color variant of Samsung Z1 next month. The Z1 was launched for Rs. 5,700 and is now available for Rs. 5,000. The Gold variant will be similarly priced.
In related, Reuters reports that Samsung plans to launch more Tizen-powerd phones later this year. The next Tizen-powerd mobile devices will be sold at the lower-end of affordable segment, which the industry classifies in the range between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 15,000.
To recap, the Samsung Z1 features a 4-inch WVGA PLS display, 1.2GHz dual core processor with Mali 400 GPU, 768MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt storage [microSD card support upto 64GB], Tizen 2.3 OS, 3.1-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, 1500mAh battery, 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1. The handset comes in Black, White and Wine Red colour variants. Samsung Z1 was also launched in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The Tizen platform also powers products like Samsung televisions, cameras, and Samsung wearable devices.
