Microsoft rolling out an update to enable 4G support on select Lumia phones in India
4G LTE handsets are growing in popularity in India with several handset makers releasing 4G LTE supported devices to cash in the opportunity. The rising popularity of 4G LTE handsets has prompted Microsoft to enable 4G support on their devices in India to stay in the competition.
Microsoft is rolling out a minor firmware update over-the-aire (OTA) to select Lumia devices which enables 4G LTE support on select Lumia devices. Microsoft has several handsets in India with 4G functionality, but lacked the necessary software. So if you have a Lumia device with global 4G support, the update should enable LTE functionality on your Lumia handsets.
Microsoft Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, Lumia 930, Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 830 and Lumia 625 are being update to 4G. After receiving the OTA update, smartphone users will get another mobile data setting for 4G, apart from 2G (GSM) and 3G (WCDMA) settings that existed already.
It's worth noting that most of these devices only support India's upcoming FDD LTE band 3 due to hardware limitations, something that Microsoft will rectify in future Lumia handsets.
Although the update enables 4G LTE support, you will have to be on a carrier that currently has 4G service in the country.
