Apple is offering free camera replacements on some iPhone 6 Plus units due to blurry photos
Apple has found out that "in a small percentage" of iPhone 6 Plus smartphones have a manufacturing defect in the rear iSight camera causing blurry image. If your device is producing blurry images and falls into the eligible serial number range, Apple with replace the iSight camera, free of charge.
The affected iPhone 6 Plus units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold between September 2014 and January 2015.
You can check if your unit eligible for camera replacement by going to iSight Camera Replacement Program page. Enter the serial number of your iPhone 6 Plus on the box provided. You can find the serial number of your iPhone 6 Plus by going to Settings > General > About.
If you are iPhone 6 Plus is eligible for replacement, you can go to the nearest Apple authorised service provider to get the camera fixed. Apple notes that:
It is advised to back up your data to iTune or iCloud before giving it in for repairs.
- Apple may restrict or limit repair to the original country of purchase.
- If your iPhone 6 Plus has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the camera replacement, that issue will need to be resolved prior to service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair.
- This worldwide Apple program doesn't extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 6 Plus.
- The program covers affected iPhone 6 Plus iSight cameras for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.
