Xiaomi introduces the Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7 in China


Xiaomi has introduced the MIUI 7, the latest MIUI ROM based on Android 5.1 Lollipop in China. It comes with a handful of improvement over MIUI 6 including refreshed user interface, performance improvement, new Mi roaming, faster response speed and better battery life.

MIUI 7 brings four personalized system UI for women, girls, boys and luxury version. Each offers redesigned desktop icons, individual design elements and more. Standard MIUI 7 has five sets system UI that can be changed during boot. There is a MUSE Theme creation tool that lets designers create themes without programming. 

MIUI 7 promises faster system response time and animation by about 30% as compared to MIUI 6. It has optimized CPU scheduling mechanism, strict background power management to let an app to wake up only when needed, thus limiting unneccesart use of WiFi, data network or location services in the background. This results in improvement of battery life by 7% to 25% as compared to MIUI 6.

 For those with poor eyesight, MIUI 7 features a new large font with optimized spacing and layout. T There's also a new gallery feature, which is capable of recognizing faces in photos The new Kids mode hides all personal information and desktop layouts, so that kids can access apps which is allowed. Also there is a My business card that lets you add your image or a five second video that will show up on your friend's screen when you call them.

An intersting addition to the Chinese MIUI 7 is Mi Roaming, a new virtual SIM service that works in 36 regions, including China, Hong Kong, the U.S, Japan, UK and Australia. Intenational roaming can be enjoyed in these regions and you can buy data at an average price of just CNY 0.1 per MB or starting at CNY 15 per GB. 

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi revealed that there are 750 researchers in the MIUI research and developer team and more than 150 million users worldwide use MIUI in 156 countries.

MIUI 7 will be rolling out via an OTA update to the Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 2A, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, and the Redmi Note starting tomorrow.

The MIUI 7 Global ROM will be introduced on August 19 in New Delhi, India.
