Xiaomi ties up with Redington to sell devices in physical stores in India

Xiaomi entered India last year and sold its products online exclusively on Flipkart. In January 2015, the company also made an attempt at offline retail through Airtel and The Mobile Store. Fast forward to April, Xiaomi broke its exclusive ties with Flipkart and started selling their products on Amazon India and Snapdeal. The company also started selling its products on Mi.com recently and Mi Store App, soon after.

Now, in a bid to strenghten its postion in the smartphone market, Xiaomi will soon start selling their products via Physical retail stores (offline) in the country. Xiaomi has partnered with Redington, one of the largest distributors of cellphone in India to sell its devices in physical stores.

The offline sales will initially be through 1,000-1,500 stores in 15 south Indian cities, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mysore and Visakhapatnam. The rollout will happen in phases and the first phase is expected to go live in the next 45-60 days. It will eventually make its products available across India by early 2016. Manu Jain, India operations head at Xiaomi expects offline sales in India to eventually contribute 25-30% of the overall numbers.

In addition, Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom has reported the availability of Xiaomi Redmi 2, Mi 4, Mi 4i and Mi Pad at its stores in the coming days. The handsets will be available at similar prices as the online store. The Redmi 2 will be available for Rs. 5,999; Mi 4 and Mi 4i for Rs. 14,999 and Rs. 12,999 accordingly; Mi Pad will cost Rs. 12,999, all with official warranty.

India is the second largest market for Xiaomi after China.  Since its launch in July last year Xiaomi has sold over a million units in the country. The comapny is also looking to introduce TVs and Air Purifiers in India.
