YouTube Gaming launched for Web, Android and iOS; poses challenge Amazon-owned Twitch
YouTube has launched its spin-off platform for video gamers called YouTube Gaming, a service focusing exclusively on gaming content. YouTube aims to take on Twitch, a popular game streaming competitor.
The service has been launched for web, Android and iOS and automatically pulls in all gaming-related videos and live streams from YouTube. It offers viewer personalized gaming recommendations based on the games and channels they collect. The service offers over 25,000 game pages and channels. It also has a real time chat feature along with the ability to video archive games. The YouTube Gaming app features a 'Games' tab and 'Channels' tab.
YouTube Gaming has a DVR mode, a video buffer that stores the last four hours of a livestream and allows users to rewind through it. You can also download video content as on-demand content. The streams run up to 60fps.
YouTube Gaming is only available in the U.S and U.K and is likely to roll out to more regions in the near future
Earlier this month YouTube launched YouTube Kids keeping the younger audience in mind and includes lots of popular children’s videos. It limits the content on YouTube to curated, family-friendly videos, channels, and educational clips
