Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 will grab 80 percent charge in 35 minutes
Qualcomm has announced Quick Charge 3.0, the next version of its Quick Charge technology which aims to gives users a considerable amount of battery life with a short initial burst of charging. Smartphones with Quick Charge 3.0 will be able to go from zero to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.
The new version will be 4X faster than the conventional charging and 38 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0 will be able to go from zero to 80 percent in about 35 minutes. By comparison to Quick Charge 2.0, the new version will improve fast charging up to 27 percent and reduce power dissipation by up to 45 percent. Quick Charge 3.0 also offers enhanced flexibility over Quick Charge 2.0 in terms of charging option. It provides flexibility with 200mV increments from 3.6V to 20V as compared to Quick Charge 2.0s four charging voltages at 5V, 9V, 12V and 20V so that the mobile device van target one of dozens of power level.
Quick Charge 3.0 uses Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage, an algorithm which allows portable devices to determine what power level to request at any point in time, enabling optimum power transfer while maximum efficiency. It also supports wider voltage options, allowing a device to adjust the ideal voltage level supported by that specific device.
Quick Charge 3.0 can be implemented with USB Type-A, micro USB and also maintains forward and backward compatibility with USB Type-C. The next gen chargers including wall charger, car chargers and battery packs will support Quick Charge 3.0.
Quick Charge 3.0 will be available as an option on Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430 and is expected to appear in mobile devices in 2016.
