Samsung SleepSense aims to help you sleep
Samsung at its IFA event last week announced SleepSense, a personal health care device that lets you monitor and manage your sleep. It is a small sensor in the form of a flat disk that tracks your sleep by placing it under a bed's matress providing contact-less monitor of your heart and respiratory rates, plus your movement while you are asleep.
With the new SleepSense, you can easily understand your sleep patterns and learn how to improve it without having to seek advice, making it your personal sleep consultant. It uses patented technology to analyse your sleep quantity and quality and provides personlised sleep reports and offers expert recommendation on how to improve your sleep via mobile app.
The app offers daily sleep scores and reports that are calculated based on seven elements- total sleep time, sleep efficiency, time it took to fall asleep, number of times you woke up, number of times you got out of bed, percentage of time in REM (rapid eye movement) and percentage of time in deep sleep.
Since SleepSense is a IoT device, it can also be connected to Samsung's smart appliances allowing you to control air conditioning units and to turn off the television when falling asleep for creating better sleep environment. The sensor can also be connected to the Samsung SmartThings app that controls devices in your house including thermostats, security cameras, and lightbulbs – all of which may affect or assist your sleeping conditions.
Samsung claims that SleepSense "is an accurate sleep tracking sensor – with up to 97% accuracy" available in the market.
