Meet Wove Band, a flexible wearable that wraps around your wrist
Wove Band is a product from Polyera, a flexible electronics company, co-founded by Phil Inagaki who is also the CEO. The company aims to bring next-generation flexible electronics to the world, and with Wove, they are creating a smart wearable with flexible screen, which is a first. The device is a prototype and is expected to be ready by mid-2016.
Wove Band features a flexible, low-power touch display, made of flexible transistors which is said to have been under development from the past two and a half years. The display comes with E-ink front layer, similar to Kindle, which enables the Wove Band to have a display which is both large and always-on, while consuming less power than smartwatches with smaller displays.
The ability to bend allows the Wove Band to inhabit a large amount of information, including run maps and navigation apps, show time, messages, weather, set calendar reminders and more.
The prototype shows a glossy look, but according to Inagaki, the end product will be sporting a matte finish to them to give the canvas like aesthetic feel to the wearer.
Wove Band is equipped with 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt storage, Bluetooth 4.0 and 9-axis motion along with haptic feedback. It runs Wove OS based on Android OS and is fueled by 230mAh battery. The charging port is located in the large segment, as is the clasp mechanism which helps lock the wearable
According to Inagaki, the developers will be getting their hands on prototypes by December. As for the price tag, it will be priced lesser than Apple Watch.
