Motorola DROID Turbo 2 with ShatterShield display, 3760mAh battery announced


Motorola has launched the DROID Turbo 2, a smartphone which comes with an extremely durable screen that's highly resistant to cracking. It offers top-of-line specifications.

The Motorola DROID Turbo 2 features a 5.4-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) AMOLED display with Moto Shattersheild Technology. The Moto Shatterfield is the world’s first shatterproof display. It is made of an aluminium rigid core, flexible Amoled screen, and dual-layer touchscreen panels (redundancy in case one goes bad). It wouldn't break into pieces even when dropped on a slab of concrete. The display is guaranteed not to crack or shatter for up to 4 years.

Inside there is a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB LPDDR4 RAM. It comes in two storage options- 32GB and 64GB, further expandable via microSD card up to 2TB. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and will be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.


For imaging, there is a 21-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and f/2.0 aperture. It can record 4K videos. On the front there is a 5-megapixel shooter with 87-degree wide-angle lens, LED Flash, f/2.0 aperture and 1.4um pixel.

For connectivity there is 4G LTE, 3G, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, GPS, GLONASS and NFC support. It is fueled by a 3760mAh battery and supports Turbo charging- In case you run out of juice, a 15 minute recharge offers 13 extra hours with TurboPower charger. In addition, the phone supports PMA and Qi wireless charging technologies.

The device measures 149.8 x 78 x 9.2 mm, weighs 169g and comes in Black Soft Grip, White Soft Grip, Grey Ballistic Nylon and Black Pebbled Leather colors and also lets you customize using Moto Maker

The Motorola DROID Turbo 2 will be exclusively sold on Verizon and will be available in the United States from October 29. The 32GB and 64GB variants are priced at $624 (Rs. 41,000) and $720 (Rs. 47,000) off-contract respectively.  It will also be available with contract at $26 and $30 per month for 24 months for the 32GB and 64GB variants respectively.
