Bluetooth to gain longer range, faster speed in 2016
As per the new roadmap revealed by SIG (Speical Inerest Group), Bluetooth is about to be improved in 2016. While Bluetooth is best-known for connecting wireless devices including keyboard, cell-phone, headsets to name a few, the Bluetooth SIG 2016 roadmap is mainly focused on connected homes and other application in the IoT universe.
For this, it will increase the range of the low-power Bluetooth Smart standard by up to four times, allowing for better infrastructure and smart home applications, as well as an extended connection for outdoor use. For example a smartwatch or fitness band wouldn’t lose its connection to your phone as you roam around the house.
It also plans to bump its speed by 100 percent without increasing power consumption. This will result in faster data transfers in essential applications such as medical devices, without consuming more energy. In addition the Bluetooth group is also working on mesh networking system, which will allow lots of Bluetooth enabled devices to connect to gether in networks that can cover up an entire building or area.
All the improvements to Bluetooth are targeted at the fast growing industries like smart home, industrial automation, location-based services and smart infrastructure.
