Huawei Quick Charging tech can charge 3000mAh battery to 48% in 5 minutes
Huawei research and development subsidiary Watt Lab demoed next-gen quick charging technology at the 56th Battery Symposium in Japan that allows lithium-ion batteries to charge 10 times faster than the ones we're used to.
A couple of videos show the new quick charging technology in lithium-ion batteries. A special charger is used for the demo since the charging technology has not been implemented on phones yet.
The battery with 600mAh capacity gets charged to 68 percent in two minutes and the other battery with 3000mAh capacity and an energy density of 620 Wh/L get charged to 48 percent in 5 minutes.
Huawei explains:"These quick charging batteries underwent many rounds of testing, and have been certified by Huawei’s terminal test department. We bonded heteroatoms to the molecule of graphite in anode, which could be a catalyst for the capture and transmission of lithium through carbon bonds. Heteroatoms increase the charging speed of batteries without decreasing energy density or battery life."
Huawei said that it is confident that the breakthrough in quick charging batteries will lead to a new revolution in electronic devices, especially with regard to mobile phones, electric vehicles, wearable devices, and mobile power supplies. The company did not mention when we can expect these batteries.
