Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update with new emojis starts rolling out
Google has started rolling out minor Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for some nexus devices. In addition Google has released Android 6.0.1 factory images (build MMB29K) for the Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and for Nexus Player (build Nexus MMB92M).
The Android 6.0.1 is the first major update arriving since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released. The update brings updated emojis, including volleyball, taco, middle finger, Champagne bottle, as well as new faces for sickness, thinking and rolling eyes to name a few. They can be used on Google's Keyboard app.
The update also brings back 'until next alarm' option for do not disturb mode, adds double-tap power camera launch shortcut and includes December's security patch. The double-tap power camera launch shortcut is already available on Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P and now comes to older Nexus devices including 5, 6, 7 (2013) and 9.
The security patch addresses several issues, the most severe of which is a critical security vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on an affected device through multiple methods such as email, web browsing, and MMS when processing media files.
Android 6.0.1 also brings minor tweaks such as adding revamped navigation buttons for tablets with Back and Home buttons, now placed on the left edge of the display, and Recent onscreen button on the right edge.
You can download factory images for the said devices from the Google Developers website here. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is also being rolled out OTA (over the air).
