Android N to come with split-screen multi-tasking function
Earlier this week, in a Reddit AMA session, Google's Pixel C revealed the development of split screen feature that would enhance the multi-tasking experience on Android. The team confirmed that the feature will be an part of Android N to offer multi-tasking capabilities on tablets and phablets.
“We're working hard on a range of enhancements for Android in this form factor. There are many things, like multi-window, that we've been spending a lot of time on -- hopefully we can share more about this soon."
Apple included the split-screen feature to iPad tablets by releasing iOS 9, which splits the large screen of the iPad into two, and lets users simultaneously access two separate apps. We've seen similar functionality in Windows as well. The feature is also available in Galaxy range of Android devices and Lenovo's Yoga tablet as well, but is limited to select Android apps.
In addition to the split-screen feature, Google's team also stated that they plan to develop DisplayPort support for USB Type-C connector, as well as a feature similar to Windows Continuum.
Like always Google will announce the next iteration of Android at its I/O developer conference in June 2016. We can expect more features to be revealed in the near future.
