Apple brings human curated 'Top Stories' to its News app

Apple's News app will now show stories curated by human editors. Apple has updated its personalized newsreader app and includes a list of "top stories" curated by Apple's editors. The changes come with iOS 9.2.

The new Top Stories section will be available in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. The human curated news will appear in the app a couple of time a day. That's a change in philosophy as in September, Apple stated that the app will learn from users patterns, likes and behavior and highlight stories accordingly.

That will happen throughout the day, but Apple will assemble a handful of stories it thinks users would want to see and will be shown only in the morning and afternoon. Flipboard is another popular news reader app that also rely on human editors to curate news.

Apple is also integrating comScore technology, a Web-traffic counter to track traffic and make sure publishers get more accurate number for the views their content generates on the app.
