Asus Zenfone Zoom with 3X optical zoom coming mid-December
The Asus ZenFone Zoom was initially showcased at CES 2015, and once again was seen at IFA 2015, but without any details about its pricing and availability. Earlier this week, Asus officially unvieled the ZenFone Zoom in its home country Taiwan.
The ZenFone Zoom has two variants- one equipped with 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, 16GB on-baord storage, and the other with 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3590 processor. Rest of the specifications are similar.
The Asus ZenFone Zoom features a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It runs Asus ZenUI base on Android 5.0 Lollipop and packs 4GB RAM. There is a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB.
It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-color real tone flash, f/2.7 to f/4.8 aperture, 10-element lenses with 3X optical zoom, OIS (Optical Image stabilisation) and laser auto-focus. It can record 1080p video as well. On the front sits a 5-megapixel camera for clicking selfies. Asus touts that with a thickness of just 11.95mm, the ZenFone Zoom is the "world's thinnest 3X optical smartphone offering up to 12X zoom-in effect."
In terms of connectivity it supports 4G LTE with speeds up to 250 Mbit/s with Cat.4 LTE support and Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v4.0 + EDR, NFC and GPS.
The Asus Zenfone Zoom is made with aerospace-grade 6063-series aluminum and a reinforced internal structure encased in a faux leather rear cover, which comes in Meteorite Black and Glacier White colors. The 64GB variant is priced at NT$ 13990 (US $429 | Rs. 28,500), and the 128GB variant is priced at NT$ 15990 (US $489 | Rs. 32500). It will be available in mid December in Taiwan.
