Google reportedly working on a messaging app with chatbot
According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal Google is working on a new mobile messaging service to take on Facebook's digital assistant M. The new service will focus on artificial intelligence.
The new service would be incorporated in its chatbot technology that answers questions inside a messaging app. This will let users switch between texting a friend and asking a chatbot for suggestion for a place to eat, by searching the web and other sources, in the same thread. This service is somewhat similar to "OK Google"
"Instead of typing a query into Google’s search engine, users will send questions as text messages, to which chatbots will respond. Google would steer users to specific chatbots, much as its search engine directs users to relevant websites."
The search giant is expected to open its service up to developers to encourage third-party bot ecosystem. Currently it is not known what the service will be called and when Google will launch it.
