Microsoft reportedly making its own SIM card for Windows 10 devices
Microsoft appears to be working on its own SIM card for Windows 10 devices, tips a recently listed app on Windows Store called "Cellular Data", which requires a Microsoft SIM card. The app enables select Windows 10 devices to connect to mobile networks by using a Microsoft account. This app was first spotted by Verge.
The listing adds that the service is currently available in select market. Microsoft is yet to reveal in which markets the SIM cards would be sold. The app listing suggests that users can choose a plan anywhere a network coverage is available and they have to click on the WiFi icon to choose cellular data from a list of networks. Microsoft is yet to release the SIM card or data service.
Verge says that with the app and SIM card, Microsoft could be planning to create its own mobile virtual networks to allow Windows 10 devices owners to connect to their carriers, without the need of contract or SIM swapping.
