Reliance Jio's first smartphone is LYF Earth 1, specifications revealed

Reliance Jio, last month, launched 4G services for its employees across India ahead of commercial roll out later this year. The company had already announced its plan to launch 4G LTE smartphone under its own LYF brand, and now Reliance Jio has announced details (Via) about its first smartphone, the Lyf Earth 1.

The Lyf Earth 1 will sport a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Amoled display (~401ppi) and will be powered by an 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC paired with Adreno 405 GPU. The RAM is not known, but it could be 2GB or 3GB. On-board storage is 32GB, further expandable via microSD card up to 64GB. For imaging, it is equipped with dual rear camera, one with 13-megapixel sensor and the other 2-megapixel sensor. Front facing unit will bear 5-megapixel sensor.

The dual-SIM phone will run Android 5.1 Lollipop, and apart from 4G LTE, the device will offer VoLTE and VoWiFi capabilities, along with the usual suite of connectivity (WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS). It will be backed by 3500mAh battery. The device is 7.25 mm thin, weighs 162.5g and comes in White color only.

The Lyf Earth 1 packs decent mid-range specs, which is more than enough to take on Micromax, Lava and China's Xiaomi, Lenovo, LeTV, and other manufacturers, who target the mid-range market segment in the country. The pricing and availability details are not known at the moment. Apart of Earth 1, there are three other smartphone - Water, Wind and Fire, which will be released in the premium segment.

While Reliance is yet to make an official announcement, it seems like Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri is going to be the brand ambassador for Lyf. Fakri on Twitter tweeted a photo of the boxes of all Lyf devices - Earth, Water, Wind and Fire, which looks exciting.
