WhatsApp to get Facebook integration, end-to-end encryption soon
WhatsApp is working on adding deeper Facebook integration along with end-to-end encryption for chats, according to a leaked screen shot by developer Javier Santon on Google Plus.
The version 2.12.413 of WhatsApp for Android reveals the company's plan to allows users to link their WhatsApp account to their respective Facebook account as well as bring end-to-end encryption for chats. As of now these features are available for users only on the Beta version and have root access.
The screenshots suggest that the end-to-end encryption will apply to messages and calls, and can't be read by anyone including WhatsApp and third parties. Users will get notification, which would tell them that the messages they are exchanging are encrypted end-to-end.This feature can be turned on in the settings.
With Facebook integration, users will be able to link their WhatsApp account to their respective Facebook account. As seen in the screenshot, this feature appears on the Account settings of the app, and asks users whether they want to share their WhatsApp account information on Facebook. For now the integration feature looks optional.
For those unaware, WhatsApp was acquired by social media giant Facebook for $19 billion in 2014. As of January 2016, WhatsApp had a user base of up to 990 million, making it the most globally popular messaging app.
