Xiaomi expands to U.A.E, Saudi Arabia

China based smartphone maker has expanded its operation in the Middle East starting from U.A.E, followed by Saudi Arabia by the end of this month. Xiaomi has appointed Dubai based Task FZCO as the local distributor of Xiaomi in the MENA region to sell its products. 

In the U.A.E, Task FZCO has teamed up with leading telecom operator Etisalat to offer Xiaomi smartphone to the market. Xiaomi will sell the Redmi 2 Pro AED 449 ($122), Redmi Note 2 AED 719 ($196), Mi 4i AED 899 ($245) and Mi Note AED 1699 ($463) in the country.

Towards the end of this month, Task FZCO will launch Xiaomi devices in Saudi Arabia, followed by other parts of the Middle East in the coming months.

"We are truly excited to bring Xiaomi’s range of mobile devices to the UAE. With the core value proposition of high quality smartphones packed with features well above their price point, we hope to become a significant player in the market" said Givemore Gurira, chief operating officer, Task FZCO.

Xiaomi aims to enter into the top five league in the region and the UAE within this year. But this will not be a easy task as the company will face stiff competition from a host of budget-oriented smartphone brands including its Chinese rival Honor, Huawei's online only sub-brand that launched in U.A.E last year

Xiaomi is already selling its products in China, India, Brazil, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Africa. The company plans to enter Vietnam, Russia, Turkey and Mexico in the coming months, as part of Xiaomi's global expansion.

Earlier today, Xiaomi announced that it sold around 70 million smartphones in 2015, which is 10 million less than the expected 80 to 100 million forecast.
