HTC Vive VR headset arrives in April, will cost $799
HTC at MWC 2016 has announced that the consumer edition of Vive VR headset will cost $799. HTC will begin taking pre-orders on February 29 and begin shipping to customers on April 1. HTC has partnered with video game developer Valve for the VR headset which uses Valve's Steam VR technology.
The HTC VR headset comes with two wireless controllers, Vive base stations (to track user movements), a Vive Link Box and Vive earbuds. It also comes with a few VR apps including Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives and Fantastic Contraption.
HTC also announced a new feature called Vive Phone services that allows you to receive and reponds to incoming and missed calls, get text messages and check calendar without taking off the VR headset. There's also a front facing camera that makes you aware of objects in front of you while the Vive's wireless controllers comes with haptic feedback and dual-stage triggers. It also comes with room scale movement sensors and an HMD featuring a buiilt-in camera and phone.
HTC said that the Vive VR headset will be available in 24 countries - the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
