Ringing Bells Freedom 251 is the world's cheapest smartphone, priced at Rs. 251

Domestic manufacturer Ringing Bells recently launched India's cheapest 4G-enabled smartphone the Bell Smart 101. Now the Noida based company has launched the world's most affordable smartphone the Freedom 251. Priced at Rs. 251 ($4), the pre-orders will be open on company's website at 6am on February 18 (till February 21) and will be delivered only by June 30.

The company says that the Freedom 251 was made possible due to immense support from the Indian government, and touts it to be a success story of government's Make in India project. With the Freedom 251, Ringing Bells aim is to "empower citizens, even in the remotest rural and semi-urban centers of India, with the latest in digital technology." It is not known how the company managed to price the device so cheap.

The Freedom 251 packs enough hardware, to take on any smartphones around the Rs. 3,000 - 4,000 mark and has potential to make a big impact on the country. The Ringing Bells Freedom 251 features 4-inch (960 x 540 pixels) qHD IPS display and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, further expandable via microSD card up to 32GB. It is equipped with 3.2-megapixel rear camera (w/ LED flash) and 0.3-megapixel front facing camera. The dual-SIM phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS. It is fueled by 1450mAh battery.

In addition, the Freedom 251 comes pre-loaded with several apps such as Women Safety, Swachh Bharat, Fisherman, Farmer, Medical, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and more. The handset also comes with one year warranty and the company has over 650 service centers across India.
