BlackBerry exploring alternative to WhatsApp

Last week, WhatsApp announced it was discontinuing support for older mobile operating system including BlackBerry 10 towards the end of 2016. Now the Canadian smartphone maker has come out with a statement.

BlackBerry says that it is looking for alternatives, for BlackBerry users, once the support of WhatsApp of WhatsApp for BB 10 ends in late 2016. The company also suggested  that users should check out the cross platform BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) client. 

BlackBerry said we are “actively exploring alternatives for BlackBerry users once support of WhatsApp Messenger for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 ends in late 2016″ 

The company assured that the Android-based Priv, will still continue to run WhatsApp even after 2016. BlackBerry also said that it is adding new security features to BBM by enhancing the group and multi-person chats experience. It will also offer more privacy and security features by allowing you to control previews.
