Google introduces Fiber Phone, a $10 per month home phone service
Google has introduced Fiber Phone, a home telephone service for its existing Fiber high-speed internet and cable TV users. It costs $ 10 per month, and offers unlimited local and nationwide calling in the US. For international call, users will get the same affordable rates as the Google Voice service.
Users will get one phone number that can be set to ring all of their handsets whether landline or local. They can either opt for a new number or retain the old one. Fiber Phone can also automatically transcribe voicemails and send them via email or text. It also offers call waiting, caller ID and 911.
To use the service, users will have to attach the Fiber Phone box to their existing landline to receive calls. It can be set up to ring the landline or a mobile device, depending on the user's whereabouts.
The Fiber Phone will be initially available in Fiber cities such as Kansas and Austin, and in the coming months will roll out as an option for all residential customers using Google Fiber Internet services in all cities in the U.S where it is available.
