Apple may skip iPhone 7s and jump straight to iPhone 8

If a new report is to believed, Apple may give iPhone 7s a miss for an iPhone 8. Following recent reports, Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz believes that the iPhone 7's successor will skip the traditional 's' upgrade cycle in 2017 altogether and instead jump to iPhone 8.

Moskowitz also said that there will not be a major iPhone upgrade this year. However, next year's iPhone will be completely revamped with "major form factore changes" brand new design, OLED screen, wireless charging and no home button. He believes that these changes could drive Apple's iPhone sale by as much as 10.3 percent in 2017. A recent report stated that Apple is planning an iPhone with glass body and AMOLED display for 2017.

Typically, Apple releases a new iPhone with a new design every two years, with the phones having new number like 4,5 and 6. These are followed up next year by a 's' upgrade which brings hardware improvements. Now it appears that Apple wants to launch the iPhone 7 this year, as a small upgrade over the 6s, and then release an all-new revamped iPhone 8 in 2017.

The analyst also believes, Apple will sell 1.8 percent leser iPhone this year, as compared to 2015, the reason being the lack of "must have" appeal in the iPhone 7 model. According to rumors, Apple iPhone 7 will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack.
