Former Moto head Rick Osterloh to takes charge of Google's new hardware division
Rick Osterloh, Former Motorola president is reportedly heading back to Google. According to a report from Re/code Osterloh is joining Google as Senor Vice President and will directly report to CEO Sundar Pichai.
The report further mentions that Osterloh will head Google's newly formed hardware division, with the aim to "unify the company’s disparate hardware projects". The new hardware division includes Nexus, which means Osterloh will oversee the development of Google's flagship Android devices. The report adds that he will "work more on software and platform development."
In addition to Nexus, the new hardware division will also be responsible for Chromecast, Consumer hardware (Chromebooks and Pixcel C tablet), OnHub (wireless home router), ATAP (Advanced Technologies and Projects including Project Ara) and Glass (wearable headgear).
Google is yet to make a formal announcement regarding the appointment. To recall, Osterloh was former President of Motorola Mobility, both before and after Google sold it to Lenovo.
