Moto X 2016 phones will come with modular backplates, launch expected on June 9

A couple of days back alleged press render of Moto X smartphones surfaced online. Now Venture Beat reports that the Moto phones spotted in the press renders aren't the same phones in to different color, instead are two different models of Moto X 2016 code-named Vector Thin and Vertex.

The report also mentions that both models of Moto X 2016 will have a modular system of attaching accessories in the form of magnetically-connecting back plates. The 16-pins seen at the back of Moto X 2016 in the images will let you attach modular accessories to the phones, which will be called Amps.

These modules include stereo speakers, battery pack, camera grip w/ flash and optical zoom, rugged cover with wide-angle lens and a pico projector. These are connected magnetically and the protruding camera lens will be flush when the Amps are fitted. The Amps range of accessories will be made by Motorola, but third parties will also offer their own connected accessories.

As for the specs, the Moto X Vector Thin will come with 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera (w/ OIS, laser auto-focus) and a 2600mAh battery. It will have a sleek profile with a waistline of 5.2mm.

The Moto X Vertex specs include 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, 2GB/3GB RAM, 16GB/32GB storage, 16MP rear camera (w/ PDAF and laser auto-focus) and 3500mAh battery. It will be encased into a 7mm thick body.

The Moto X 2016 smartphones are expected to be announced at Lenovo's Tech World 2016 event, which is scheduled for June 9 in San Francisco.
