Moto Z line to replace Moto X series; Mototola teases June 9 event with 2000s RAZR ad
Motorola (owned by Lenovo) earlier this week launched Moto G4, Moto G4 Play and Moto G4 Plus budget smartphones. Additionally reports revealed new details of Moto's 2016 flagship devices.
According to Venture Beat, Motorola is replacing the Moto X series with a brand new Moto Z family. The first two members of the Moto Z family will be the 5.5-inch Moto Z Style codenamed Vector Thin and Moto Z Play, codenamed Vertex. They will succeed the Moto X Style and Moto X Play from last year.
It also appears that the Moto X4 variants that was reported earlier this month along with renders are the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play. They will have fingerprint scanners on the front and modular back plates, that can be swapped with modules allegedly called MotoMods and includes stereo speakers, battery pack, camera grip w/ flash and optical zoom, rugged cover with wide-angle lens and a pico projector.
As for the specs, the Moto Z Style will come with 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera (w/ OIS, laser auto-focus) and a 2600mAh battery. The Moto Z Play specs include 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, 2GB/3GB RAM, 16GB/32GB storage, 16MP rear camera (w/ PDAF and laser auto-focus) and 3500mAh battery.
The report also mentions that Verizon's Moto phones won't be called Droid Turbo or Droid Maxx, but Moto X Play Droid Edition and Moto Z Style Droid Edition. Motorola is expected to announce the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play on June 9 in San Francisco, during Lenovo's Tech World 2016.
Meanwhile, ahead of the June 9 event, Motorola on its YouTube channel is teasing upcoming Moto devices. Interestingly the star of the video is the iconic Moto RAZR V3 flip phone which was incredibly popular at its time selling over 130 million units (launched in 2004).
According to reports the upcoming, the Moto flagship Moto Z Style will have a 5.2mm slim waist line. It's worth noting that Moto RAZR was also one of the slimmest phones of its time. The teaser indicates that Motorola next flagship will be inspired by the Moto RAZR. (Via | Source)
