Nokia phones, tablets are coming back

Following Microsoft's announcement that it will sell its feature phone business to FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Foxconn and HMD Global for $350 million, Nokia has announced that it will make a comeback in the smartphone and tablet market.

Nokia has granted exclusive global license to HMD Global to sell Nokia-branded mobile products including feature phones, Android smartphones and tablets for the next ten years across the globe. HMD Global is a Finland based company formed by ex-Nokia executives that aims to provide a focused, independent home for Nokia-branded devices.

Nokia will provide HMD with branding and intellectual property rights in return for royalty payments. HMD will have full control of sales, marketing and distribution  of Nokia products.

Once, the world leader in mobile phones, Nokia was wrong footed by the rise of smartphone, and eclipsed by Apple and Samsung. Nokia sold its mobile business to Microsoft in 2014. While we can't wait to see what Nokia has in store for us, it's worth noting that the company has already released an Android tablet dubbed Nokia N1.
