Windows 10 now running on 300 million active devices, free upgrade offer ends on July 29
When Micorosft released Windows 10, the company offered it as a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users for the first year. Now, as Windows 10 is nearing its one-year anniversary, Microsoft has reminded users that the free Windows 10 upgrade offer will end on July 29.
Microsoft in a blog post said that after July 29, users will have to purchase the full version of Windows 10 Home for $199 / Rs. 7,999 or the Windows 10 pro for $199 / Rs. 14,999 from Microsoft online store or retail stores. Microsoft's hardware partner will continue offering devices with Windows 10 per-loaded.
Microsoft also shared insights about the adoption of Windows 10. The company stated that Windows 10 is now running on more than 300 million active devices world-wide since its launch nine months ago. In India, the adoption of Windows 10 is faster that any previous iteration of Windows OS, with people at home, businesses, companies and schools using it. Here are some other insights:
Microsoft will also be adding a couple of new features in the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update which is slated to release this summer.
- Over 63 billion minutes were spent on Microsoft Edge in March alone, with 50% growth in minutes since the last quarter.
- Cortana, the personal digital assistant in Windows 10, has helped answer over 6 billion questions since launch.
- People are playing games on Windows 10 more than ever before, with over 9 billion hours of gameplay on Windows 10 since launch.
- Apps that come with Windows 10, including Photos, Groove Music, and Movies & TV are seeing millions of active users each month, including more than 144 million people using Photos.
- Windows Store continues to grow daily with new Universal Windows Platform apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger; updated UWP apps from Vine, Hulu, Netflix and Twitter; and popular PC games including Rise of the Tomb Raider and Quantum Break.
