Apple's OS X is now macOS Sierra and gets support for Siri, auto unlock and more


Apple at WWDC 2016, previewed the next iteration of OS X desktop platform called MacOS Sierra. The new OS comes with features like unlocking MacBook using Apple Watch as trusted device, inclusion of Siri,  easier file management on iCloud and Apple Pay on Safari.

However, the main highlight is that Siri will be available on Mac, and will be integrated into apps, notification and search. It can be accessed from Dock or menu bar, and Siri can perform activities such as scheduling reminders, opening apps, sending text messages, searching content online and saving searches in the Mac's Notification Center.

Other features
  • Universal clipboard – allows seamless copy & paste of files between two different iOS devices 
  • Tabs – For easier navigation of desktop, Tabs are added to Mac apps that support multiple windows, including Maps, Mail, Pages, Numbers, keynote, TextEdit and third party apps. 
  • Picture-in-Picture feature enables videos to come up as floating windows which can be resized an moved around screen. 
  • Safari web browser now supports Apple Pay to make secure and private purchases when shopping on participating websites 
  • Photos gets Memories feature to rediscover favorite and forgotten moments deep in your Photos library 
  • Auto unlock – unlock Mac and automatically log-in with Apple Watch  
  • Optimized Storage frees up space on Mac by automatically syncing old files to iCloud, reminding you to delete used installers and clear out duplicate download, caches, logs and more
The developer preview of macOS Sierra is now available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today. The public beta release will be available in July, and final update will come this fall, which is likely to be around September.
