Apple's watchOS 3 brings performance improvements, revamped UI to Apple Watch
Apple at its WWDC event announced watchOS 3 for Apple watch that brings major UI overhaul, performance improvements, new apps, improved fitness & health tracking and better third party app support.
The main highlights and new features of the watchOS 3 include:
Apple will release the watchOS 3 this fall to Apple Watch, with Developer Preview available immediately.
- Revamped user interface
- Instant launch feature – Fast launch time and app performance (up to 7x than watchOS 2) of the watchOS app.
- Dock – just swipe up from home screen for quick access to favorite apps
- New Control Center – gives quick access to frequently used toggles and settings like WiFi, Bluetooth, Night Shift
- Scribble – handwriting recognition feature that lets you to scribble on the screen which translates to word for quick reply to messages
- SOS feature for emergencies. long press of the side button on the watch will automatically trigger a call to whatever is the equivalent of 911
- New Fitness Tracking app – Share activities and check activity levels of your friends and families to motivate yourself
- Activity app is now optimized for wheelchair users. Wheelchair pushes contribute to all-day calorie goals, the “time to stand” reminder is now “time to roll” and there are dedicated wheelchair-specific workouts.
- Breath app for breathing, relaxation and stress reduction
- Easily switch watch faces just by swiping on display
- New Minnie Mouse watch face
- More third party App permissions
