OnePlus won't release OnePlus X sequel, instead focus on one true flagship line from now
OnePlus announced the OnePlus at the brand's global VR event and is now available for purchase world-wide invite free. Soon after the announcement OnePlus CEO Pete Lau stated that the company has decided to end its mid-range OnePlus X lineup. Engadget reports that OnePlus will not release a sequel to the OnePlus X, instead will focus its resources on flagships.
Lau said that OnePlus will focus on just one "true flagship" line from now on, to strengthen its foundation, rather than competing in the low-end market segment. In addition to flagship lineup, OnePlus will focus on development of its OxygenOS and also be investing in after-sale services and more lifestyle products.
For those unaware, the OnePlus X was launched last year in October for $250 (U.S), Rs.16,999 (India) with decent specs and premium build made out of metal and glass. The specs include 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 2525mAh battery.
Lau also mentioned that OnePlus is doing well in Europe, India and the U.S, with Europe being the fastest-growing market, and being the top brand in the $300+ (Rs. 20,000) in India.
