Snapdragon 652, Snapdragon 820 SoCs are now optimized for Project Tango

Lenovo announced the PHAB 2 Pro, the first consumer ready Tango smartphone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 652 SoC, which featured software-level optimizations to be compatible with Tango. Now Qualcomm has expanded support for Tango devices to Snapdragon 820 SoC, as well as future Snapdragon 800 and 600 tiers processor.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 652 SoC delivers high accuracy, uniform time stamping of multiple sensor data streams, efficient processing without the need for external co-processors, and leading camera and sensor processing technology for Tango devices. Now Snapdragon 820 will also support all these functionalities, in addition to offering higher performance and lower power consumption.

This is because, all Snapdragon 600 and 800 series processors share the same architectural advantages needed to deliver Tango experiences in highly mobile form factors. They also include an integrated global high-frequency clock, which performs highly accurate, uniform time stamping of all that sensor data which is critical for enabling smooth augmented reality experiences, where 3D graphic overlays track virtually seamlessly with physical surroundings.

The PHAB 2 Pro is equipped with five Tango-related sensors including gyroscope, accelerometer, and three camera sensors, including two new Tango-specific camera sensors: a fisheye motion tracking camera and a depth sensor camera to offer augmented reality experience.
