Android Nougat 7.0 Coming Up In August, Official Update Dropped for Nexus 5 Users
A while back we had posted about the devices which are likely to get the Android Nougat update. Quoting on from that very same post, we had written:
Coming on to the Nexus 5, Google supports every device that it releases for a minimum period of 2 years. Since the Nexus 5 was available from November 2013, the minimum support period ended in November 2015. Nexus 5 received the Android Marshmallow update because it was still within the 2 year support period back in September 2015. Even though the minimum support period has now come to an end, Google is still providing the Nexus 5 users with the monthly security updates for Android Marshmallow, even after the support period has ended. Thanks to the fact that Android One 2nd Gen, will be getting the Android N update (as it is getting the Android N Preview Builds) & that the Nexus 5 boasts of greater specifications in terms of hardware than the Android One 2nd Gen, there is definitely a glimmer of hope. Even last year, when it was speculated that the Nexus 4 might get the Android Marshmallow update, because it had the minimum specifications required to run Marshmallow, Nexus 4 did not receive the update, while the Android N First Gen did get the update, even though both the Nexus 4 and Android One First Gen had similar hardware specifications.
That "glimmer of hope" seems to have doomed now. Popular Twitter handle of @evleaks tweeted this a few hours back:

Evan Blass aka @evleaks is considered a very reliable news source especially when it comes to leaks.
Android Nougat Public Release
This tweet seems to have also assured the slated late August release of Android Nougat we had talked about here. This can be made out from the first line of the tweet itself.
Don't worry Nexus 5 (hammerhead) Users!

Google might have given up on the Nexus 5 as far as the official updates are concerned, but we don't need to worry a bit because we have got XDA-Developers. Nexus 5 aka hammerhead is still a very popular device amongst the developers at XDA. Hence, AOSP ports of Android Nougat and CM14 are guaranteed to come along the way, which makes up the base for popular ROMs such as DU, AICP, RR, PAC, Bliss, Slim, Exodus etc. So, cheer up guys!
