Audio calling is coming soon to Google's video calling app Duo

Earlier this week, Google released its video calling app called Duo. Currently the app only offers video calling, but now it looks like you'll also be able to make audio calls soon.

Google's product lead for communication Amit Fulay on Google+ while replying to a question related to audio calls, confirmed the feature will be "coming soon" to Duo, though its not clear how soon. An audio calling option can come in handy in situation when you have limited bandwith or you cellular signal is too sketchy for making regular calls.

For those unaware, Duo is Google's new video calling app that offers on-to-one video calling and has a simple UI, which is easy to understand and use. To sign-up you will have to use your mobile number and lets you make video calls with anyone in your contacts list. It allows for 720p video calling and is optimized to work on low bandwidth mobile networks. It will even work on slower 2G networks as well. Other features include end-to-end video calling encryption and Knock-Knock.

Google also has a messaging app called Allo lined up for release, but it is not known when it will be launched.
