Samsung Gear S3 classic, Gear S3 Frontier announced

Samsung has unveiled the Gear S3 smartwatch at its pre-IFA event in Berlin. The Gear S3 will be available in two designs – the elegant Gear S3 Classic and the rugged Gear S3 Frontier.

The Gear S3 smartwatches have 1.3-inch 360 x 360 Circular Super AMOLED Always On touchscreen display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ to keep scratches at bay. It also has rotating bezel for controlling the Tizen based wearable without touching the screen and offers functionalities like accept/reject call or snooze and alarm. The display can also recognize handwritten text and convert it for messages.

They have IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, SOS feature for emergencies, NFC and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) for mobile payments using Samsung Pay, built-in speaker, microphone and GPS. But the Gear S3 Frontier includes LTE connectivity and has a rugged outdoor look.

The Samsung Gear S3 has features 1GHz dual-core processor, 768MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, WiFI and Bluetooth. It also includes sensors such as Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light and Barometer to monitor fitness activities and more. It is fueled by 380mAh battery which is rated to deliver four days of battery life, and supports wireless charging.

The Samsung Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier will be available in 22mm straps and will release later this year.
