Amazon outs new Alexa-enabled Echo Dot speaker for just $49.99

Amazon has refreshed its small, WiFi connected, hands-free and voice controlled personal assistant – Echo Dot. It gets a lower price tag and sports a sleek and compact design, shaped like a hockey puck like its predecessor.

The device has a small built in speaker and connects wirelessly over Bluetooth or via a wired connection using 3.4mm stereo cable. It uses Alexa's voice recognition to control music playback, answer question, read the news, provide sports/weather update and even control light and appliances. Moreover, Echo Dot doubles as a smart alarm clock and can be used to order rides from Uber and Pizza from Domino's.

The new Echo Dot comes with an array of seven microphones and uses beam-foaming technology and enhanced noise cancellation to detect the wake word "Alexa", from across the room. It also has an improved speech processor for better voice recognition.

Amazon is introducing a new ESP (Echo Spatial Perception) feature which means if you've multiple Echo Dots, only the nearest will respond. ESP will also be available for existing devices via software update.

The new Echo Dot has been priced at $49.99 (Rs. 3,300) and will be and is now available for pre-order in the U.S via Amazon. Shipping will begin October 20. Amazon is also offering Echo Dot in a 6-pack for $249.99, where you get one free when you buy 5. There's also a 12-pack for $499.99 (10 + 2 free).
