iPhone 7 and 7 Plus teardown reveals reveals RAM, battery capacity, what replaced the headphone jack
Do-it-your self repair wesbite iFixit, best known for its teardowns of devices has ripped apart the new iPhones piece by piece, and detailed what's inside. The teardown reveals some of the details, Apple keeps secret like the RAM and battery.
iFixit reveals that iPhone 7 has 2GB LPDDR4 RAM made by Samsung and is fueled by 1960mAh battery, which an upgrade over iPhone 6s's 1715mAh battery. The teardown also reveals the iPhone 7 has Qualcomm MDM964M LTE Cat. 12 Modem.
The iPhone 7 Plus teardown reveals that it has 3GB LPDDR4 RAM, which is also manufactured by Samsung. It is fueled by 2900mAh battery, which is significantly powerful than iPhone 6s Plus's 2750mAh battery.
Other notable things are:
iFixit has given the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus a repairability score of seven out of 10. (10 score means easy to repair).
- Both the new iPhones feature Qualcomm's MDM964M LTE Cat .12 Modem, however, in some regions they have Intel's modem (XMM7360)
- The freed space from removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack on the new iPhones is now occupied by "barometic vent" and Taptic Engine which powers the new touch-sensitive home button.
- Although, the new iPhone have speaker grilles on each side of the Lightning connector, inside there's a single speaker on the right side.
- Only a few tweaks have made the latest iPhones water-resistant. One of them is the glue that holds the phone together, and the other is rubber gasket for the Lightning connector and SIM tray for an added layer of waterproofing.
A few days back the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus went on sale in 28 countries. As for the Indian market, the new iPhones will be available from October 7 with starting price of Rs. 60,000 for iPhone 7, and Rs. 72,000 for iPhone 7 Plus.
