Nexus 6, Nexus 9 LTE To Be Updated Directly To Nougat 7.1

Amidst speculations as to why the Nexus 6 & Nexus 9 LTE haven't received the Nougat update, our Google friends have told us that both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE will now be getting the Nougat 7.1 update, instead of Nougat 7.0.

Owing to multiple performance and battery related issues, the OTA update was not rolled out to the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE. Each Nexus device is supported by Google for major Android releases for a period of at least two years after the device has been launched into the market. However, the device will continue to be supported in the form of small monthly security patches till a period of 18 months after the last device has been sold off from the Google Store.

Courtesy to the fact that both the Nexus 6 (announced October 2014) and Nexus 9 (announced October 2014) are not even two years old yet, they are still eligible for major Android releases. However, this time Google has broken it's promise of ensuring that the Nexus device owners are amongst the first people to get a taste of the latest Android release because by the time the rollout of Nougat 7.1 is complete, LG V20 would have hit the shelves. The LG V20 is the first smartphone to run Android Nougat out of the box. Thus, the LG V20 buyers would have had tasted Nougat before the Nexus 6 and Nexus LTE users.

It should have been the other way round, shouldn't it? After all, this is the time when Nexus uses can brag and show off the latest Android to others, making others envy them. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
