Kodak revives Ektra with a camera-centric smartphone
Back in January 2015, Kodak launched its first smartphone IM5. Now the iconic camera brand has launched its second smartphone dubbed Ektra, which is named after the its innovative and feature loaded 35mm camera from 1941.
The Kodak Ektra has a unique design with a huge camera lens at the back featuring 21MP Sony IMX230 unit with f/2.0 aperture, 6-aix OIS, PDAF, non-reflective leans coating, ISO, accompanied by dual-tone LED flash. For selfies you get a 13MP camera featuring f/2.2 aperture and PDAF.
It boasts DSLR-like modes and features like Smart Auto, Portrait, Manual, Sports, Bokeh, Night-time, HDR, Panorama, Macro, Landscape, and 4K Video Capture. It also has an advanced customizable manual mode that allows users to adjust exposure, ISO, focal length (Manual/Auto), white balance, shutter speed, and aperture (fixed f2.0 main camera)
The handset has a dedicated shutter button, and the camera lens are protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass. It sports a leather-like finish on the outside for a better grip. It also comes with a widget with Kodak-curated app recommendations such as Adobe Lightroom, VSCO and Prisma.
Coming to the other specs, Kodak Ektra features 5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display with Corning's Gorilla Glass protection, 2.3GHz deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, 4G LTE, USB Type-C and 3000mAh battery.
The phone has been manufactured by UK-based company called Bullitt Group, who also manufactured Kodak's first smartphone IM5. The company has licensed Kodak's intellectual property and brand to make Ektra smartphone.
The Kodak Ektra is priced at £449 / €499 (Rs. 36,600) and will go on sale in Europe in December and other regions including the U.S in 2017.
